Taurino Cerveza

I swear I'm drinking one of these right now. Really, I do. However, I challenge you to find another review for it online or even a damn picture of the beer. You won't. Well, maybe you will. My google skills are worthless and weak.

The beer seems to be sold exclusively at Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Markets, a sort of minimalist approach to grocery shopping. Pretty sure it's a British thing. Unlike spotted dick, it ain't half bad.

Taurino Cerveza ain't half bad either. It isn't fantastic by any means but as far as Latin American beers go, I'll stack it up favorably with Corona, Tecate and Modelo.

It's smooth tasting and easy drinking like the other beers I mentioned. The big difference however is the price. $7.99 for a 12'er.

Maybe it's because it's from El Salvador or maybe it's because Fresh and Easy has tons and tons of the stuff and must sell it exclusively or maybe it's because no one knows about it, but this is pretty much a Corona, with an image of a bull slapped on it and a 25% or so discount.

If there's a Fresh and Easy in your area, seek out Taurino Cerveza. After comparing it to Corona I guarandamntee you won't pay $12 for a 12-pack of Mexican beer again.

VIVA TAURINO CERVEZA! VIVA EL SALVADOR! VIVA FRESH AND EASY!

BRO!! I'm effin drinkin one of these right now... in fact they are on sale at Fresh and Easy for $2.00 off normal price this week! Only $5.99 for a goddamn 12'er!! Jesus Christ I bought 6 12 packs and just have them sitting next to my fridge. This shit is just as good as Corona, (some may think otherwise) and if you have had a Land Shark (Anheiser-Busch) you would definitely like it better than that schwag-ass beer.

VIVA TAURINO CERVEZA!!!

Agreed! I paid $7.99 for the first go round - it tasted good with a lemon wedge in it (curse me if you must). But at $5.99 for a 12 pack it's the best beer value I've EVER seen. I may have to go out and buy up the rest of the supply before it goes away. I suspect that the price cut indicates that it was an F&E failure and we won't be seeing much more Taurino after the existing supplies are gone. Sad.

haha... I am drinking one as well! In my area the beer is on sale @ fresh and easy for 4.99 . I wanted to try it out first and I must admitt that I do plan on returning before the sale ends! Perfect for this fourth of July... Anywho good post!

I also bought some at F&E for 4.99 a 12er. This is the cheapest 12er I have bought since my college drunker days. After a few more of these I will be feeling like the bull on the logo and I am gonna find me a Hefer.

Anonymous said...

Yeth...I bought the Taurio 12 er for $4.99 today....drinking number 8 right now....Not even feeling remotely buzzed....this is better than I thought it would be. Kinda like a Corona....I was kinda embarrassed to buy it as I had a look from super sexy 30 year old hippy chick at the Fresh & Easy in Eagle Rock....God...the silly hipster hats and silly tats walkin' round the place. This is wannabee hipster hell.....

Anonymous said...

hah I finished off a 12 pack last night.. wasn't bad, good for the price. Some of the cheap $5 F&E exclusive wines are pretty good too. Finally found a use for that store.

Unknown said...

I had one last night, $4.99 for a 12'r at F&E, not bad a'tall. Anyone know the alcohol content? Didn't seem to do much in that area, and another poster said he didn't feel anything after 8. I'm not really in to drinking O'Douls, no matter how cheap it may be.

Anonymous said...

does anyone know the alchohol content? thats what we were wondering, having just finished a 12pack and not really feeling the normal effects my girlfriend swears its beer flavored water!

Anonymous said...

I swear this beer is not alcoholic. I've had a few already, don't feel anything. No wonder it's so cheap!

Anonymous said...

Me 10 . . . drinking and typing. What's up with there being no mention of alcohol % anywhere on the bottle or the box? Makes me suspicious . . . I like it though. If I'm able, maybe I'll check back in at 8-12.

SurferJoe said...

I'm a real lightweight beer drinker...one beer gets me kinda silly and two has me biting people on the ankles...

That said, I can feel SOMETHING in this beer 1/2 way through a bottle..so there's SOME alcohol in it...but I don't see a proof rating anywhere on the bottle either. Isn't that required by law?

haha...I'm sippin one right now in a frosty mug with a lime wedge (i know...i know). Very refreshing and perfect for a hot day. And at $6.99 for a 12/er...INSANE

As of 3 says ago this beer has been $6.99 for a fucking EIGHTEEN PACK! That's right an EIGHTEEN pack! Some kind of Christmas special. I have gotten 2 eighteen packs within the past few days. Good deal I must say, not to mention the beer isn't half as bad as others. So get down to your local F&E and stock up on this before the 25th. On a side note, I noticed that this beer has caused me to have minor headaches and chest pain. The beer is brewed and canned in El Salvador. It is imported in Novato CA.

Anonymous said...

I discovered that the alcohol content varies from can to can!!

Anonymous said...

i agree with the the alcohol content in question. I bought two eighteen packs two days ago for 6.99 each @ f and e too. I drank a twelver christmas eve and wasn't even near where I should've been.Tastes good though. Will definitely go out and grab more especially at that price.Bows up everybody and be safe for the holidays.By the way, "VEGAS BABY"

I'm from St. Cloud, MN, but I was in Mesa, AZ visiting my father in law.

They had a special at the Fresh & Easy-- an 18-pack of Taurino for only $7.99, and I brought an 18-er back with me to St. Cloud.

Hell-- I like it better than Corona, and it gives Modelo a run for its money.

Best beer value, ever.

Taste great while eating lime-flavored tortilla chips.

BRO! This beer is so effin chill. BROSEPH Im chillen on an 18er from Fresh and Easy too! But for only 6.99!!! Chill on that!

Anonymous said...

$6.99 for an 18 pack here in OC, Cali......can't beat the price! Tecate is my beer of choice and I go thru a 30 pack a week; Taurino isn't half bad in comparison, especially for the price. The only item in question, like many have mentioned, is the alcohol content. Since my liver has obvious damage and I am indeed a raging alcoholic....I thought it was just me! About 6-8 Tecates has me a little buzzed, but I have yet to feel even dizzy off this stuff. I guess I'll keep trying for this price!

Has anyone heard of Brama? I think it's from Brazil, anyways, somewhat similar in terms of cheap price, latin american beer, light like Corona..........raging headache after 2-3......I'm beginning to see some similarities.....unfortunately.

Anyone know if there is a website for the company?

Anonymous said...

Well ladies and gents, I don't think it's made by La Constancia for major distribution, not under their name anyway. Cerveceria La Constancia will actually brew beer for individuals and companies for minor distribution. Check their website: http://www.laconstancia.com/

I tried converting to English.....didn't happen though! Hope you speak Spanish! Click on the Cerveza link, then Exportacion. This brings you to a list of beers that they export. Their major labels are exported to bigger stores listed on this page. If you click on Etiquetas Privadas, it will show you a list of other beers that are not their exports, but they make for other small companies that want to sell their "own label".

Another good website to estimate the ABV is: http://www.ratebeer.com/brewers/cerveceria-la-constancia-sabmiller/582/

It shows the ABV of almost all of the beers that La Constancia offers. The weakest on that website is 3.2........so I think we can assume it's still stronger than Coors light!!!

Hope I helped a little.
Cheers

Yeah these are tasty. I ran across this post trying to figure out what the alcohol content is in these things. No luck so far.

Someone needs to do a science experiment and figure this out. Basically you'd try to evaporate the alcohol from a bottle of beer through some chemistry contraption involving tubes and Bunsen burners. I'm drunk right now, (not from Taurino) but if I remember correctly, alcohol evaporates/boils at a temperature less than water. Like 80 something Fahrenheit.

Come on. Some nerd has to have this figured out. Back to Google.

(I don't think I've ever gotten anything more than a slight buzz on them. But I've got a liver the size of your head)

Dude!! We have one opening tomorrow in our city of Alhambra and the add is andvertising an 18 pack for $5.99! My husband was skeptical to try it but after reading all of the positive postings we are going to stock up for superbowl!!
Thanks guys & girls!!

Wish I could say the same...but the Fresh and Easy where I live isnt allowed to sell any alcohol at all. Can you guess where I live? Hollywood, california. Apparently theres a longs near by thats preventing the sale of Fresh and Easy Beer and wine in the area. I guess they are afraid of losing sales...those bastards.

hollywood, just drive to eagle rock. I live in silverlake and go to f e once every 2 weeks.

Picked up 2 18-packs from F&E today in Mira Mesa, CA for $7.99 each. They had a pallet of them sitting by the registers. Probably going to go back tomorrow and load up on some more.

So speaking of ABV, the site posted earlier: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/taurino-maximo/12518/ does not show an ABV. Granted, I'm not entirely sure what Taurino Maximo is (maybe it's the same thing). I have noticed that all this beer does it make me sleepy, which is ok. We'll see this upcoming weekend if I can actually pull a buzz off of it.

Unknown said...

Damnit! Now I have 36 fake beers in my fridge. More research dug up 0% ABV.

Anonymous said...

if you're going to go that far, shouldn't you show proof of your research?

Chris said...

Hey guys, got in contact with F&E and asked about this bear, Here is their reply:

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your note. The alcohol content for the Taurino beer is
Alcohol: 4.6%,
Calories: 133 +/- 5 Kcal for 12oz bottle,
Total Proteins: 7.2 +/- 1.6 mg/100ml at 12%.

We hope this helps and look forward to seeing you soon in the neighborhood.

Best,
fresh&easy

Hope this helps everyone out there.

Chris....NICE!
Thanks for digging in for all of us!...might have to go grab a couple more of the 18 packs for $6.99 now while the deal is on!

Wow!!!! My wife got me this beer last night 01/23/2009 I'm on my Third one right now. I've never heard of it so wanted to find out more about it. So I googled it, and found this site. This beer is pretty tasty I don't like Corona, but I do like Tecate. It's pretty smooth. I don't know how much my wife paid for it but she did get it at F&E. I'm planning on drinking at least 12 tonight so I'll let yall know if I get drunk off of it.

Anonymous said...

Hey I have been buying this beer also for 7.99 an 18 Pak at F&E in Temecula, Ca. With some salt on the top and lime hanging out there it is VERY GOOD! That is my wife's new favorite store and I am glad!!

Peace, One Love, Robert

OMG I TOTES LOVE THE BULL BEER TOO!!!!!!!! I'm kind of a lightweight so just one of these gets me wasty-pants. I'm 14 and me and my friends love steeling this beer from the front of F&E. If you want to party with Taurino and some hott girls, give us a call.

I saw this stuff in a Phoenix advertisement for $4.99 for a 12 pack! Based on reviews here and the absurdly low price, I went and bought some. Nine beers later, I had a 12 pack of Bud Light buzz but not even a hint of hangover this morning. The buzz seemed a bit different from "normal" beer - kind of like the wierd buzz I get from Sparks. It's definitely pretty watery and flavorless but it does the trick. It goes down like water - my beer of choice for chugging contests for sure! Now I just need to see if they can deliver a pallet before it goes off sale :)

Anonymous said...

Umm, bought this last night 2/22/09. Its a good beer for the buck. I too, as some others here, were a lil embarrassed to buy the beer. Making fun of it with my friends as purchasing it and walking out with the bright colorful red and yellow box.

But after drinking it, I have to say its pretty smooth, id have to take the "drinkability" from bud and give it to this beer.

As far as the alcohol, its got some unless my placebo effect if friggin amazing and i got drunk with my mind only. Plus, they carded me when i bought it, that should tell you something.

Just try it, you wont be disappointed. And, good beer for beer pong, its like using a Corona for beer pong, wow, people will think you are rollin'!

I just drank 3, I am wasted. There is enough alcohol.

I totally agree!! F&E (or fo-sheezy) as my college calls it) opened right before the fall semester right down the street and all of the students LOVE it. We weren't allowed to drink, but when a 12-er is 6 bucks... screw rules!! It tastes AMAZING!! I only wish I would have stocked up when I moved away!

....this beer is ass. that is all.

I just rolled the dice on a 12er of Taurino myself at Fresh and Easy. The King of Beers it is not. Still gagging a little on the aftertaste, but I'm expecting it to subside somewhat after one or two more.

i wanted to see the abv stack up vs bud and bud light lol. not bad. seemed a little bitter at first but damn, can't beat the price. like 2 buck chuck from trader joe's for sure. let's just pray it doesn't spring a hangover from hell >.<

This beer taste really similiar to Caguama ( which ive liked for years) and both are brewed for the same place. Therr is definately alcohol in this beer, feeels about the same as corona. I do however notice strange headaches the next day after drinking this stuff. Overall a great deal at $5.99 in Buena Park, CA

RicoLazio1900 said...

I just bought a 18 pack in cans from Fresh and Easy for $8.99, at first I thought the after taste was kinda nasty, similar to the flavor of Old English or some cheap malt liqueur, but after poring one into a cold glass and added some lime it's actually pretty good.

Viva Taurino!

Michael (Las Vegas) said...

I'm trying Taurino beer for the first time after shopping at a Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets in Las Vegas, Nevada. I only bought it because It was one of the only beers in the cooler section and the guy at the store said it was pretty good. It's much different tasting form the mainstream American beers I usually drink. My opinion: It's not bad, It's cheap, and It's different.

Does anyone know how many carbs and calories are in this beer?

Anonymous said...

Carbs? Its beer not noodles. Just bought my first 18er at F&E for $7.99. Mmm Mmm Good for the price!!

TAURINO !! now i feel like a bull.. out of a can it taste booty, but in the bottle it is great. real beers are not suppose to drunk out of cans anyway.. if you havent tried one yet, go for it guarnteed you'll be hooked. taste good buzz decant & it's CHEAP!! the alcahol content is higher then bud light, & most of those other lame ass pop beers.

I'm on my 3rd one at the moment and I have to admit, $6.99 for an 18 pack of cans is in the Keystone/Natural territory.
I have to say that I'm not unimpressed, however considering the beer is an "import" from El Salvador - its a cheap way to look classy with people over.
The beer has a nice smooth taste with no bitter aftertaste. I'm going to have to pick up some limes next time I'm at the F and E.
I wouldn't mind ordering one of these at the local mexican joint to go along with my enchilada combo number 4.

If you are skeptical, go try a 12er. I'll be buying it again.

$5.99 a 12 pack, I just got an 18 pack for $8.99... $11.75 out the door. I'm a regular Bud drinker and the flavor and buzz is a steal at that price. It has a good kick too. I don't know the alchol content, but it feels similar to Budwieser (5.0). I might just switch over permanently just to save $5 to $8 an 18 every week.

I had this my girlfriend and she got bzzed....so I got to put it in her pooper so the alcohol level is good. VIVE Taurino!! Viva EL SALVADOR!! VIVA F & E!! Vive Drunk LOVE!!!

This stuff tastes like low grade dog piss. The only good thing about it is the price. If all you care about is getting drunk then I guess this will do it, but it don't taste good. I won't buy it again no matter how cheap it is.

Two 18 packs out the door for under $20.
Funny that some folks complained about the taste. If your goal is taste, body, mouthfeel and aroma, drop $10 on a bottle of Chimay; if you want to get a buzz and hold onto it for a good long time with many, many beers, this beats most others.

I have to agree with everyone. This beer label ROCKS!!!! VIVA TAURINO....great beer for a greater price. I normally don't drink that much beer and I was a big fan of "corona" in my younger years but TAURINO is the way to go. It tastes great along with pizza and hot wings.
Unbeatable taste for a cheap price.

I'm visiting from Hawaii and I've been in the liquor business for 38 years ( just retired).Staying with the grandkids and stopped at Fresh and Easy with my daughter to get a few things. HOLY SHIT...Imported beer for $7.99 a 12 PACK ? Reminds me of a (Light beer), but enough imported taste to keep my palate happy. Guess when you go exclusive with one account ( like TJ's) price is always negocible....I'll see in a week if my taste buds change and I'll write another report before I head back to the Islands December 1.....Aloha !!

Suckin' on my 4th....Not bad at all!! beats Corona, for sure. kinda sweet tasting but finishes crisp. best served ice cold. not sure a lime slice is needed. tortilla chips n guacamole would be perf. 6.99 a 12'er compared to 6.99 for one beer in a bar, sweetens the deal. this will be my 'go to' beer when im craving cerveza. for the price, def the beer to buy in high quantity for a party or or fishing trip. i dig the macho black bull head logo too, makes me feel like a tough guy.

Currently 9.99 per 18 at my local f&e in the oc which is still mind blowingly cheap. Bought it as a potential replacement for pacifico and its fitting the bill. Do it with a lime. Do it!
